Why the Name “Sallie’s Halo”?

The organization is named in honor of the late Rev. Dr. Salatheia Bryant Honors. Dr. Salatheia’s. Her “nickname” was “Sallie”… a name she was affectionately called by her friends and family. In November 2017, after a four year battle with breast cancer, Dr. Salatheia “Sallie” went home to be with the Lord. Sallie's Halo is a continuation of the life she lived and a tribute to her legacy as a servant of the community.

Who was Sallie?

Dr. Salatheia (Sallie) was a Mother, a Wife, a Minister, a News Reporter as well as a Sister and Aunt. Sallie was the mother of two amazing kids: Bryant Jamerson and Kennedy Sa’Nora. Sallie was the wife of Reginald Kenneth for twenty-seven plus years. Sallie was a Pastor in the African Methodist Epsicopal Church in the Tenth Episcopal District (Texas). Sallie Pastored and Co-Pastored three churches in Texas with her husband Reginald: Mt. Pilgrim AME Church in Maynard, TX, Reedy Chapel AME Church in Galveston, TX and Brown Chapel AME Church in Houston, TX.

Dr. Salatheia (Sallie) received her bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Auburn University in AL, and her Master’s of Divinity and Doctorate in theology of Ministry degrees from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. Sallie was also an award winning veteran News Reporter. After finishing Auburn University with a Journalism degree, Sallie was hired by the Lakeland Ledger-A New York Times affiliate.  She was end her journalism career after being reporter for the Houston chronicle for 10 years.

Background

Sallie’s Halo is a family support foundation that provides services to families of cancer patients in treatment, recovery and transition. Founded by Reginald Honors, Alexander Honors, Kennedy Honors & Bryant Honors, the foundation needs to raise funds to begin operations.  We have developed comprehensive services in an effort to support the strength & solidarity of families dealing with ailing loved ones. 

Mission

Our mission is to pull families closer together during their fight against cancer. Working with families to minimize the negative impacts of cancer, we will provide prayer, special songs, toiletry accommodations, job advocacy, counseling , meals, transportation, family activities coordination, financial assistance, spaces for reflection, spiritual guidance, field change scholarships, educational workshops for coping, and most importantly a listening ear.

Vision

Sallie’s Halo envisions a world with thriving cancer families. Inspired by the fragility of life and where the experience of suffering and loss promotes solidarity and a greater sense of self worth. 

Target Audience

Sallie's Halo serves cancer patients and their family by working hand in hand with families, community organizations, hospitals, faith-based organizations and family oriented businesses to find donors and raise funds for the foundation.

Our Team

  • Kennedy S. Honors

    Co-Founder,  Director of Operations

    Kennedy is a current undergraduate senior  at Southern Methodist University majoring in Philosophy and political science  she brings professionalism and charisma to the team. She is the daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Salatheia.

  • Regional K. Honors

    Co-Founder, Outreach & Community Engagement Coordinator

    Reginald is a retired pastor and school administrator. He is also the former husband of Rev. Salatheia. He has a master degree in education. His experience as a pastor and school leader makes him perfect as our outreach and community engagement Coordinator.

  • Alexander Honors

    Co-Founder, Organizing Director

    Hi , I'm Alex. My aunt Salatheia was highly influential to my faith and helped to form many of my beliefs and life principles. Her passion for family and faith is what inspired us to start Sallie's Halo. We know first hand the toll cancer can take on families and are dedicated to helping families navigate the unpredictable circumstances presented during diagnosis, treatment, transition and recovery from this disruptive disease. Rev. Dr. Salatheia's legacy lives on with every family we touch and her Halo shines bright in our devotion to love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
